What girls do when they don't have children

When you are in my position in life...This is what you come to...A man, who has a whole lot of homework, and for some reason believes that ESPN helps him focus.
So this is what I have to resort to, as to not disrupt the learning that he is doing.
Aren't they cute little mummy men? Aren't they just adorable with their mustard yellow eyes as they sit in their spa of sludge (aka the best darn homemade (by Kim) chili that ever did exist)
Also, when you don't have children, other people's children seem to be a whole lot cuter. Such as this dude.
Notice the mustache on this kid's jack'o'lantern.

I work in a computer lab

So sometimes I waste time online...

Today's waste of time pick:
Reading an old blog from the first year of our family blog.

I suggest everyone reads, enjoys, and keeps on playing the game

Who would win a fight between...

Here's how this game goes. The first person posts "Who would win a fight between..." and puts two people. The next comment answers and then posts their own "Who would win a fight between..." I'll do the first two so you can see how it works.

Who would win a fight between Big Bird and Elmo?

14 things to say:

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

Big Bird! Have you seen the size of that puppet? Elmo would have to do some serious ankle biting to take down that bird.

Who would win a fight between Maddie and Kylie?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

Thats a tuff one but i would have it would be a tie because kylie is pretty feisty and maddie is pretty big. Good thing they live far away from eachother.

Who would win a fight between Godzilla and King Kong.

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

Godzilla for sure. One wack with that tail and the ape is gone.

Who would win a fight between a Davis Spartan and a Davis Dart?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

How much armor is on the spartan? Is their poison on the dart? I guess the dart being inadimante has it's disadvantages. SPARTAN WINS.

Who would win a fight between Christian Bale in Newsies or Christian Bale in Swing Kids? (I won't even put in Christian Bale in Batman- he would cause some serious damage) ((Hmmmm, I wonder who wrote this one???))

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

Definitely Christian Bale in Swing Kids. Don't mess with the Nazi's, they wouldn't even let unions form in their day. Does that answer your question Shelly? :)

Who would win in a fight between Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

So we go from my childhood crush to Davey's....I would have to go with Mary Kate. Her name is longer. Also they're identical so no matter who it was we'll call her "Mary Kate"

Who would win a fight The Jolly Green Giant or Mr. Clean?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

The Jolly Green Giant, unless Mr. Clean squirted anticeptic in his eyes. Ho-Ho-Ho

Who would win a fight between mom and acid faced aliens from outer space?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

Mom for sure! She'd just say something funny. Either they'd laugh to death or be to shocked to continue the fight.

Who would win a fight between Wayne and Garth?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

Waynes seems stronger but lets not forget that Garth keeps drumsticks on him at all times. While Waynes monologuing and tucking his hair behind his ears *BAM*

Who would win a fight between Ralphy and Bobby (king of the hill)?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

That would be Bobby. Ralphy would just get scared and wet himself and run away. Poor Ralphy.

Who would win between David and Kim's boyfriend?

some mormon lady... said...

David, he has a more permanant attatchment to Kimmie. James could always find another girlfriend but David couldn't find another sister. Wait a minute, yes he could. I guess then I'd go with James.

Who would win a fight between Bambi and Gus Gus?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

Though we all know Bambi has these incredible ripling muscles and massive antlers by the end of the movie, Gus Gus is going to win the fight. He seems to know how to get humans on his side, and lets face it, humans killed Bambi's mom.

Who would win a fight between Lisa and the Gunny Man (yum yum yummy)?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

ok- i don't know who posted this, but I think we all know that I (lisa) am an adult and do not fight imaginary things. With that said.. Gunny Man wins.

Who would win a fight between Jared and Ronald McDonald?

D.R.BROWN FAMILY said...

I asked the kids who would win a game between uncle jared and ronald mcdonald (i thought a fight wasn't a very child friendly word). The conversation went like this:

Kirtlan- I don't know
Kimmie- What do you think Maddie?
Maddie- Umm...Grandma Brown!
Kirtlan- Or Uncle Davey!

So, apparently people who aren't playing can win.

So who would win a fight between the "Superman Returns" Superman and the "Smallville" Superman?

Student Teaching

I am a student teacher. That is weird. But it is fun.

Since I am in a first grade classroom, the books I've been reading recently have changed. I've been reading Junie B. Jones...what fun books.

So far, my favorite quotes:

"That's when a very terrible thing happened. And it's called--Mrs. and the strange man did a big smoochie kiss! And it was in front of the whole entire everybody! I covered my eyes. That's 'cause I was shamed of her, of course. On account of teachers shouldn't do that smoochie thing!"

about her baby brother, "He's a dud, I think."

I wouldn't really suggest Junie B. Jones for reading for younger kiddos, but somebody about 8 could probably handle it. As you can see, the writing is in first person, written just as a kindergartener might speak. It reinforces poor speech. Somebody who can recognize that it is grammatically incorrect can actually have fun with it (with the exception of Aunt Josephine, but since she is dead, that doesn't really matter).

Also, starfall.com is a cool sight for the emerging readers in the family...

I graduate in December...basically just 2 1/2 months! Then I'll be looking for a job. It will be a little hard to find one mid-year. If anyone knows anyone in the Provo School District area, by some sort of magic, let me know. (That's one of those asking for help, and not actually expecting anything). If by some crazy chance, you know of a position opens up at Knowlton or Buffalo Point or Kaysville Elementary (where Adam's nephews go)... let me know. I don't really expect to come up there to teach, but it's always good to know what is happening.

Ummm... kids are cute. The end.

9:04 PM

This was over the 4th of July weekend but I thought better late than never. Here are just a couple of pictures of the...

Management Quotes

So...nobody really posts. Everyone must be busy with their kids. I have a spouse now, but still no kids, so life isn't as busy as it is for the rest of you. Therefore, I'm posting.

However...I don't have kids, so I have nothing to post about. Therefore, this is what you are getting.

I recently read a book about management, and I liked some quotes in it, so I wrote them on the board at work. Seeing as I'm stepping down from my position in just under two weeks now, I decided to erase them off the board. I wanted to keep them, so I typed them up. I might as well share!

Trust is something that happens within people only when it is created between people. However it doesn’t happen by accident or good intentions—trust is crafted “by hand” everyday in the many decisions you make and actions you take in leading.

-Chip R. Bell and Ron Zemke

We have a belief that our guests will only receive the kind of treatment we want them to receive if the cast member receive that same kind of treatment from their managers

-Walt Disney World Handbook

Great leaders connect, support, enrich, inspire, and provide hope…Bottom line, great service leaders achieve that status because of one overriding quality: they serve.

-Chip R. Bell and Ron Zemke

I find the great thing in this world is, not where we stand, but in what direction we are moving.

-Oliver Wendell Holmes

Yeah, I don't have deep thoughts about these. I just liked them. I LOVE YOU ALL!

Video Tour of the Coolest Apartment Ever

I was having trouble posting the video straight to blogger, so I threw it on YouTube. You'll have to have this link to view it (it isn't searchable). Enjoy!

Our Apartment

For Really Real Reals this time:

The bedroom. That's a moose on the bed. His name is Mr. Loose Moose (or something like that). We got him in Jackson Hole.
That is the bathroom. I like the brown shower curtain a lot. That little basket held the cards at the wedding. Now it holds extra toilet paper.
The living room! The couch is from Adam's parents. His mom wanted to throw it away before Adam's mission. He begged her not to. Result-we get it! The awesome chairs are from his grandparents. They are lazyboy brand and about a million years old. Despite the horrible shade of orange, I love them! The coffee table was a gift from our neighbors. They upgraded, to our benefit. On the coffee table lies Fablehaven. We read it everyday, and stay up too late reading it, and regret it every morning. Morris family, that is the picture of the Savior you gave us under the lamp. You can't see it well in this picture, but it looks so great in my living room. Thank you so much!
The kitchen. Adam and I purchased the table from a couple that is moving to England (I think...) for grad school. I wouldn't say we got a deal, but it is pretty much the only furniture we purchased (along with the dresser that we bought with gift cards).
The kitchen from the front door. Look at all the neat things in my kitchen. And that's not even the half of it. Those cubboards are full of glasses, and pans, and all sorts of things. Thanks everyone for all the gifts. I absolutely love my kitchen. I love my toaster oven, my knives, my rice cooker, my punch bowl/cake stand, my triffle dish (currently holding fruit), my microwave, my dish towels, and on and on...

Hope you enjoyed the tour. Come back again. And come for reals. We like company. That table folds out to seat 6...okay, so that's not a ton...but hey! We still have Adam's parent's card table in our storage room. That will seat 4 more. Nevermind the fact we only have five chairs total. (three of which borrowed from Mom and Dad Loose).

New Apartment

Lisa asked us to post some pictures of our apartment

I don't have the best pictures of the place, but I tried to get a few good shots.

Here is the living room.

Our kitchen isn't really our style, but it will due.

It isn't much, but not too bad for a starter place. We'll upgrade eventually.

6:30 PM

The Play's the Thing...

Someone finish the sentence above. Bonus points for naming the play.

So I wasn't very good at wrestling kids and taking pictures of this performance, sorry. Kendle and Paige were in a Wicked/Wizard of Oz spin-off play. Kirtlan and Maddie did their third session of Shakespeare for kids. The first one was Midsummer Nights Dream, then Much Ado About Nothing, and the only one we have pics for here is for As You Like It.
Paige is the cute little girl in green.
Kendle is the animal in the middle next to the giraffe.
Great Work Girls!!!

Kirtlan and Maddie are Shepherds

Engagements

We spent the weekend in Logan to visit Adam's brother, see the cousins, and have Kristi take our engagement pictures. We haven't seen them all yet, but she posted a few to her blog. We'll see more as they come.

I love Adam. A lot.
